Fearless is looking for a Software Engineer II to add to our diverse team of 250 employees (and counting!).

The Software Engineer III leads the development, maintenance, and enhancement of complex software systems that solve customer and user problems. This role brings detailed understanding of the nuances of software development, and depth in a variety of languages, paradigms, technologies, and frameworks to effectively contribute in a wide array of different projects. Software Engineer IIIs are experts in digesting complex tasks and business requirements and aligning a group around an implementation. They are responsible for the smooth delivery of maintainable systems by establishing effective team processes.

Responsibilities and Contributions

Organizational and Leadership Role

  • Synthesizes business requirements and objectives and drives the development of solutions.
  • Collaborates with talented designers, product managers, and fellow engineers to plan and build new features.
  • Coaches and mentors others to develop their professional skills.
  • Drives all phases of the development lifecycle from task creation to production deployment of new code.

Functional Role

  • Designs and implements effective, secure software solutions that meet the business and technology requirements of the project.
  • Articulates business needs and translates them into technology solutions.
  • Creates technical processes that create testable and maintainable software with minimal technical debt.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues in application and infrastructure code.
  • Develops and implements plans for the continuous improvement and evolution of the software system.
  • Identifies opportunities and articulates suggestions to improve the technology strategies beyond the scope of a team or project.
  • Reviews other developers' code and provides specific, constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of products/workflows within the businesses they support.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies

Must-Have Skills

  • A minimum of 6 years of demonstrated working Full Stack Development experience with
    • Java / Spring Boot
    • React / JavaScript
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated working experience within AWS environments
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated working experience with Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated working experience with SQL databases (Oracle database preferred but open to others)
  • Ability to obtain required security clearance for this project: Public Trust
  • Expert in web-development including front-end (browser) and back-end (server) including UI components, client-server integrations, APIs, and data persistence.
  • Ability to discuss abstract software development concepts like single-responsibility, cohesion, data immutability, and other paradigm appropriate design patterns.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new systems and technology quickly.
  • Expert in at least one programming language like Node.js, Python, Go, Java 8 , Ruby, etc.
  • Proficient with the industry-leading framework(s) for the programming language expertise (Express.js, Gatsby.js, Django, Flasks, Rails, Spring.io, etc).
  • Proficient with important libraries and technologies in the ecosystem of programming language expertise.
  • Proficient with HTML, Javascript and ability to quickly translate designs into CSS implementations.
  • Proficient with at least one front-end technology like React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Backbone, Svelte.
  • Proficient with building applications in containerized development environments.
  • Expert in with advanced git commands like rebasing, squashing, and cherry-picking.
  • Ability to assist other engineers with source code management in git.
  • Ability to discuss technical tasks and team process topics with team members.
  • Basic understanding of container orchestration technologies like Amazon ECS and Kubernetes.
  • Basic understanding of "serverless" concepts and frameworks like Serverless.com and AWS Lambda.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms like AWS.
  • Basic understanding of software infrastructure including network, compute, and data storage resources.
  • Basic understanding of securing systems on the application, network, and infrastructure layers.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, and build relationships and influence others.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • Demonstrated working experience with Typescript
  • Demonstrated working experience with Argo CD and Helm
  • Demonstrated understanding Kafka
  • BS/MS/MEng in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technology-related degree.
  • Experience working with government or large industry clients.
  • Holds a current AWS Certified Developer Associate, Solutions Architecture Associate, or Solutions Architect Professional or similar certification in another cloud platform.
  • Holds a current Certified Scrum Master certification.
  • Holds a current CompTIA Security certification.

We believe in paying people fairly, so we've established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless - regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or negotiation skills - is given equal pay for equal work.

Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs)!

Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

  • AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $100,817 (min) - $131,811(mid) - $161,307 (max)
  • NC Residents: $103,935 (min) - $135,115 (mid) - $166,296 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $109,132 (min) - $141,871 (mid) - $174,610 (max)
  • DC Residents: $122,643 (min) - $159,436 (mid) - $196,229 (max)
  • CA & NY Residents: $126,800 (min) - $164,299 (mid) - $202,881 (max)

Within the range, starting pay for team members is based on the evaluation of the alignment with the position description requirements including job-related skills and experience or training. This range reflects your earning potential over the course of your career at Fearless in this position.
